I've spent this last week in DC at a Flickr meetup where I met some of the greatest people in the world. We took a day trip to an abandoned factory in the middle of nothing, where it started to pour quite heavily and the water started leaking in from every direction. In the most apocalyptic, chaotic, trying-not-to-get-our-expensive-camera-equipment-wet-as-the-walls-literally-crumble-around-us moment of my life, the lovely Anna Neubaur enabled my insanity by stopping and posing in gross, murky, abandoned factory water. I love you. Thank you all for that perfect moment.

294/365 I'M BACK. And I'm so happy to upload finally! Going without photography for the past two weeks has been so crappy and I'm actually not looking forward to my 365 being over. I'm hoping to regularly upload from now on, but school is finishing in just over one week, then I'll have holidays for two weeks. So expect to see a hell lot of new stuff. The mark ii is like a god, and I still don't know how to use it properly lol. But I've worked it out well enough now. I finally got to expand a photo of myself, and use a remote for the first time. I did this concept with me as model a couple of days ago but it really suits Joeri better. I discovered how awesome it is to work with someone who is a real artist. He was not afraid to try this and he brings so much to the picture. ◊ Tumblr ◊ Deviantart ◊ Facebook ◊ Personal Fb page ◊ Formspring

(another photo in the comments) I constructed the 3'x3' frame from poplar wood and the weaving is with twine/straw/hemp like string. Here is a quick peek at a piece from my senior seminar works in progress show that went on display at my college this past December. I'm excited to get some of my other work up on the internet while I have time off this winter break. Stay tuned.

I'm currently in Los Angeles at the Los Angels Flickr Gathering hosted by my good friend, the incredibly talented David Talley. We're having such a wonderful time and today was only our second day. I've met so many people, some of whom have been photography inspirations for me for years, and have gotten to reunite with a ton of my absolute best friends. Watch my stream and our Flickr group for photos, and you can track the tag #lafg2013 on Twitter and Instagram. Personal Facebook Facebook Fan Page Blog Website Instagram

334/365 So it's been a while since I actually took a photo. I got a 5D Mark II the other day (!!!) but realized my remote timer and stuff isnt compatible, so I wont be shooting any concepts with it until that all comes in the mail (Hopefully very soon). This is something from the meetup. I realized that most of the stuff I was shooting was different from my normal style, so I tried doing something more dream-like and atmospheric. Model in this is Vera

firstly, kristi and i filmed this shoot! you can watch the video here. all of the actual shooting is included, since it took under 3 minutes! we were able to use kristis camera to record us as i photographed her using my camera. sneeeeeaky! :P i also recently made a question and answer video, which can also be found on my youtube channel. ive been wanting to make this piece for a while now, and i knew going into it that this image was going to be one of the finest lines i have walked across when it comes to marrying darkness with beauty. especially knowing what this truly represents to me. but after shooting this, i personally feel both relieved and proud. more and more these days, it seems that my photography is really becoming a way for me to represent sadness in a beautiful ways. dealing with depression for 5 years has certainly influenced me, and my life - even though its allowed me to find an extreme level of happiness in my adulthood, i cant forget what it was like when things were different. so, as dreary and perhaps unwanted it is to look at this topic, this photograph is really a summary of the journey i went through growing up. i went from being a child - carefree and blissfully ignorant at one point or another - to a young girl who at her lowest was suicidal. you dont see it coming - its a slow process but all of a sudden youve hit rock bottom and you feel there is nothing left to you. all of a sudden everything that was easy, isnt. its hard to wake up. its hard to fall alseep. its hard to eat. in summary, this image is a suicide. unlike most of my characters, this one has given up. and much like i did, she needs someone else to save her. but the thing is, without pain there is no happiness - and i feel completely blessed to have been through what ive gone through. i know what true happiness is, and now that i have it, ill never let go. ill never disappear. when i look at this picture i can see this character finish her death, and in that moment its like that piece of me is gone for good - though im guessing it will never be completely gone from my pictures. :P on a technical note, the skeleton was created by using images of skeletons for reference, and painting over the images with varying colors, opacities, and brush sizes through several different layers. i also made a lot of decisions with this photo that i feel i normally wouldnt make, but regardless, i like the outcome. :) facebook | formspring | blog | client website

.205.365 I read an article about the future of medicine yesterday. It boggled my mind. I've recently ordered a bunch of smoke-bombs, glowsticks, and laser pointers. Plus I'll be working with Taylor McCormick and a few others very soon. I'm pretty excited.

self-portrait. A few months ago, I was very surprised and excited to learn I had won a contest through Brooke Shaden's Facebook group. We made plans to meet up at her New York Workshop (which was beyond amazing, informative, and a lot of fun), which occurred this past Sunday. I can't really put the experience into words, but they say a picture is worth a thousand, so this image will have to suffice. This image was what I created that day. I snuck off a few floors from where everyone was shooting, and tried locks until I found this strange little room with the window missing. I'm so thankful to Brooke for letting me sneak along and be a part of her trip to New York. Hopefully this is only the beginning...

Facebook Fan Page/ Prints/Blog/Website Inspired by this image and this song Guess who got a studio backdrop? This guy. It's pretty awesome. I'm still learning how to work with it and what the best ways to light it are, but it's really nice having a simple backdrop to shoot against for concepts like this one. Hopefully this backdrop will allow me to start doing more studio work and I look to be using more models in the near future as well. So when I went to go buy red thread for this image, I got asked for my ID to buy the rubber cement I used to glue it to my skin. The lady goes, "You don't hardly look sixteen." Rubber cement is incredibly hard to get off your skin by the way, I wouldn't personally recommend it. I'm also going to try and film a behind the scenes of this edit, and the edit from my last upload tonight while waiting for laundry to dry. I'll keep you guys posted on that. Strobist: Setup
